kickboxer classic brawler franchise immortalized by Jean-Claude Van Damme given new life in the form of a TV series by the creator of Fast and furious (via deadline).
the project is called Operation: Kickboxer And it sounds a little absurd: with an espionage feel, the show follows a CIA agent disguised as an MMA fighter who travels the world on missions while maintaining the appearances of an octagon champion.
The idea of the TV series is being offered to broadcasters and broadcasting services. streaming, but nothing is guaranteed so far. The project has Gary Scott Thompson as showrunner. If the name is not familiar to you, know that he was the screenwriter responsible for creating the characters of Fast and furious in 2001. He also wrote movies like The Man Without a Shadow (2000) and 88 Minutes (2007).
If you don’t remember, Kickboxer: Drago’s Challenge a 1989 film that follows a man named Kurt Sloane (Van Damme) who must learn how to master the martial art in order to take revenge on those who killed his brother. After becoming an 80s classic and launching his lead actor’s career, he won six more sequels – but not all of them with Van Damme.
The series will be executive produced by Todd Garner responsible for the latest film by Mortal Kombat (2021), and from Dimitri Logothetis in Jiu Jitsu (2020). It’s not certain if the show takes place in the same universe as the films, and if it include any participation from Van Damme.
